I am self-taught, I started sketching when I was a young boy of 5 or 6, and I feel I can stand amongst, and with, the many talents. "One should never restrict one’s interests, all art forms has its place in one’s own abilities”.
I love music and literature and I like to read diary notes about people’s lives because I like people. It is all a journey of learning and culture. I want, need! to understand everything around me. I love to work in all media.
I have been an artist all my life, you don’t just decide to start one day, it is within your being. I don’t teach, but if asked, I may.
All I can recommend for a beginner is to be steadfast, honest and self-critical and to compare your work with the "masters" and have the "eyes" to see as well as the heart to feel.
The "Prince Philip" bronze was a commissioned piece and I was actually at the show to present the piece to Her Majesty and Prince Philip. The bronze is called “Four- in-hand“ and is four feet in length, it took me a year to sculpt it.
The photograph here is taken of my grandad, he was a very multi-talented man: an artist, a sculptor, an entertainer, a ventriloquist (as in the photo) a magician and much more. I admired him so much and think that this must be where I got my talent from - his gene pool. |
All artworks are done for my own pleasure and posterity, a record of a place, or a person, an object, in my own time, a reflection of to-day. I will take on commissions that interest me; portraits or bronze figurines, so please feel free to enquire.
I do not exhibit, I never have and I most probably never will. I love what I do and therefore I don’t need a public pedestal other than this website. All my artwork is for sale.
My first large piece of work was a life size crucifixion carved in lime wood when I was just 14.
